Two female skiers, Sharifa Al-Sudairi and Farhoud Joud, are making history as part of Saudi Arabia's eight-athlete squad competing in the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China. Alpine skiing and curling competitions are being held in the Kingdom, which will host the 2029 edition in Trojena.
On Saturday, Sharifa Al-Sudairi made her historic Games debut. She is accompanied at the Asian Winter Games by Fayik Abdi, the first Saudi Arabian Winter Olympian. Winter sports in Saudi Arabia were greatly enhanced by Abdi's participation in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, which resulted in the founding of the Saudi Snow Sports Federation in 2022.
Abdi noted the rise of winter sports in Saudi Arabia and stated his delight in heading the country's first delegation to the Asian Winter Olympics. He underlined that their involvement is evidence of the sport's growth in the nation and that he is proud to have contributed to the development of the sport for next Saudi winter athletes. Joud and Al-Sudairi are also participating in the women's slalom competition.
